John wrote the flaming pie story for an article for 'mersey beat' but people it took the story literally when he quite blatently made it sound sarcastic but the name came from years of playing around, The Quarry Men The Silver Beats, The Silver Beetles then The Silver Beatles (Changed the spelling to Beat as it was how they described their music), then John got introduced as Long John Silver of The Silver Beatles so he shortened it to The Beatles because the introducion he got reminded him of the embarrasing time when The Beatles used to be Johnny and The Moondogs.

Eddie,

Thank you very much for the historical rendition of how the Beatles came up with their name. I actually found it quite interesting, not knowing about all the names they actually went through before settling on the Beatles. Thank you for your extensive investigatory work.
