ABOUT MY HEALTH...

THE QUESTION I GET THE MOST ONLINE AND WHEN I MEET MY FRIENDS IN PERSON IS, "EDDIE, HOW IS YOUR HEALTH?".
OK, I HAD A FULL MEDICAL EXAM YESTERDAY BY MY WONDERFUL NURSE PRACTITIONER.
SHE, BY THE WAY, IS THE COOLEST LADY IN THE WORLD.
MY HEART IS 100% FINE.
NO MORE MURMUR.
AFTER LIVING WITH MY SEVERE HEART MURMUR FOR 62 YEARS, IT IS TICKING AWAY FINE AND MURMUR-LESS NOW.

Eddie is doing much better

He is still doing regular physical therapy, and still needs a cane to walk (only a few steps at a time), but he is making slow and steady progress, and he is back posting on FaceBook - he's maxxed-out on friends (FaceBook limits you to 5,000), but you can still "Follow" him.

March 20, 2020

Update on Eddie

Eddie's sister Barbie reports that he is making slow but steady progress. He can do 300 (somewhat shaky) steps with the walker - that's better than what he could do on his birthday (2 weeks ago).

March 06, 2020

The latest message from Eddie

TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND PALS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR BIRTHDAY WISHES + GREETINGS. THEY MEANT SO MUCH TO ME.
YOU ARE VERY KIND. MY PROGRESS HERE IS VERY SLOW. I FELL OUT OF BED + BROKE A RIB. MY PHYSICAL THERAPIST SAYS IT SHOULD BE LESS THAN A YEAR FOR ME TO BE UP AND WALKING AGAIN AND MY VOICE IS STILL RASPY AND HOARSE.

I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH. I SAW A GREAT MOVIE - KIRK DOUGLAS IN “PATHS OF GLORY”

I HOPE TO BE BACK ON FACEBOOK IN A FEW WEEKS OR MONTHS.

ALL MY LOVE - YOUR FRIEND ALWAYS - EDDIE.

P.S. I ATE A BOWL OF CEREAL WITH A FORK THIS WEEK - THEY FORGOT TO GIVE ME A SPOON SO I ATE MY CREAM OF WHEAT WITH A FORK.

P.S.S. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I MISS YOU. YOU ARE ALL VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.
MUCH LOVE - YOUR FRIEND ALWAYS - 63-YEAR-OLD EDDIE.

February 17, 2020

Presidents Day Update

Eddie continues making good progress, and his voice is improving (he says it's about 25%). He is also getting a bit better at walking, and his appetite is starting to return. He still has a lot more resting and healing to do, but he continues on a good trajectory.

February 11, 2020

Eddie is settling in at the rehab center, and they are beginning the long process of getting him "up and running". Tomorrow he begins speech therapy (right now he can only whisper).

Eddie is still very weak and sleeps most of the day. He is not able to receive visitors - infection is still a very serious concern.

February 06, 2020

Thursday Afternoon

Eddie is being transferred to a rehab facility in Cumberland sometime today. They expect him to be there for some time while he regains his strength.

This facility is much closer, so Eddie's family won't have to do the 3-hour drive to Ruby Memorial that they have been doing every day.

At this point, they are limiting visitation to family members - Eddie is still very weak, and infection is always a concern. Right now, he needs to focus all his energy on getting stronger, walking, eating, etc.

A number of you have asked about an address to send cards - the best place to send things is the Fan Club - I will personally make sure it gets to Eddie - here's the address:

The Eddie Deezen Fan Club
P.O. Box 21
Glen Ridge, NJ 07028-0021

February 04, 2020

Tuesday Afternoon update

Eddie is doing much better today. He walked 3 times, and he is slowly regaining his strength.

He is ready to move to a nursing/rehab facility, but that is on hold because the insurance company has to do some sort of approval - things are complicated because Eddie's insurance is California-based. That said, it sounds like it will happen soon, but for now, he's still at Ruby Memorial.

February 01, 2020

Saturday Afternoon Update

Good News! Eddie is doing much better today. He walked about 50 steps this morning, and they have him off the feeding tube and oxygen! If he continues to make good progress, they will be able to discharge him early next week.

Obviously, he won't be going home, but to some sort of skilled nursing or cardio-rehab facility - hopefully closer to Cumberland so his family won't have the 3 hour round-trip every day.

Truly great news!

January 29, 2020

Wednesday Afternoon Update

Eddie continues to make slow progress. The family, including Eddie's Mom (age 91), comes to see him pretty-much every day.

The last couple of days Eddie has been eating a bit more (he is still on the feeding tube), and was able to walk to his chair today - although it was very painful.

It is important to remember that Eddie has been through a tremendous ordeal and it's just going to take some time for him to heal and recover.- but he will!

Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers...

January 24, 2020

Friday night update

Eddie has improved enough to be moved from the ICU to a "step-down unit. His vital signs are improved, and he is sitting up for longer periods of time. He is still very weak, and still on the feeding tube and oxygen, but he's going in the right direction.

Rehab from what Eddie has gone through can be a long process, but doctors are confident that he will fully recover if he continues on his current trajectory.

January 21, 2020

Tuesday update

Eddie is making slow but steady progress. The doctors seem to feel that is what we can expect for the next few weeks - he has been through a heck of an ordeal. The next step is to get him strong enough to leave the ICU again - if he continues to improve, perhaps in a few days...

January 19, 2020

Sunday night update

Eddie is doing much better today. He is much more alert. Able to eat some solid food. Talking. He even sat in a chair for a short while. One of his nurses said it was a dramatic improvement over just 24 hours.

They have been able to reduce some of the medications, but they are still treating the infection, of course.

January 18, 2020

Saturday update

They have moved Eddie back to ICU so that he can be more closely monitored until they get him back to a more stable condition and get any infection under control.

He is fighting a tough, hard fight, but I know he can do this - as his nurse said to me a few minutes ago - "It's two steps forward, one step back".

January 16, 2020

Thursday Evening Update

After several days of good progress, Eddie had a bit of a relapse today - he seems to have developed an infection (they think it is pneumonia), and is less responsive than he was. He is receiving antibiotics, so hopefully this is just a small bump, but, of course, everyone is very concerned because of his weakened condition.

January 14, 2020

Tuesday Afternoon update

Eddie can still only whisper, he is very weak (his sister had to hold the phone for him), but this is the first day he has been able to speak more than a few words.

He is making slow, but steady progress - please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

January 12, 2020

Sunday Night Update

Eddie He is still somewhat disoriented, but he continues to make progress every day. He is still dependent on the oxygen through his nose, but they are hopeful that they can start to "step him down" starting tomorrow, and if that goes well, he might be able to leave the ICU soon.

January 10, 2020

Friday Night Update

Eddie is improving steadily. They removed the breathing tube and he is now able to talk.

He is still very weak, and mostly sleeping. The nurse said that if he keeps improving, he should be out of the ICU in a few days.

January 09, 2020

The latest news on Eddie

We just got an update from Eddie's nurse.

He is doing better today and more responsive - so much so that they have taken him off the Heart/Lung machine and hope to have him off the breathing tube by tomorrow.

He will still be in the CV/ICU, however.

Eddie's a fighter and he's fighting his way back to us.

Rest in Peace
Edd "Kookie" Byrnes

Update on Eddie's condition

Eddie underwent successful open-heart surgery yesterday morning. Doctors were able to complete the procedure. Unfortunately, Eddie had some very serious complications during surgery (or just after) and he was in pretty bad shape yesterday.

The good news is that he is doing better today and they are hoping that maybe by Friday he will be recovered enough to perhaps leave the ICU.

Obviously he is in no shape to have visitors or flowers -

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

January 06, 2020

please keep Eddie in your thoughts and prayers...

TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND PALS:

i WILL BE GETTING OPEN-HEART SURGERY TOMORROW MORNING. PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR ME, PLEASE SEND GOOD THOUGHTS AND BEST WISHES FOR ME. I'M VERY, VERY, VERY NERVOUS.

SORRY I HAVEN'T BEEN ON FACEBOOK MUCH LATELY. I MIGHT STILL BE OFF FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT I HAVE TO GET THIS DONE.

[Editors note - Eddie is in Ruby Hospital in Morgantown, PA. His mother, sister and brother are with him - please keep him in your thoughts and prayers]

JOHN LENNON - IN MY LIFE...

JL

I RECALL CLEARLY THE BEATLES COMING TO AMERICA IN 1964.

I REMEMBER RIDING TO THE GROCERY STORE WITH MY FAMILY AND LAUGHING AND GETTING ALL THEIR NAMES STRAIGHT.

I REMEMBER THE EXCITEMENT AS I SAT ON THE FLOOR WATCHING THEM ON THAT UNFORGETTABLE ED SULLIVAN SHOW THAT LONG AGO NIGHT IN FEBRUARY OF '64.

I REMEMBER GOING TO SEE THEIR TWO MOVIES A HARD DAY'S NIGHT AND HELP!.

THERE WAS A CONSTANT SCREAM FROM THE GIRLS IN THE THEATER ALL DURING BOTH FILMS.

IT WAS SURREAL, A BIZARRE MOVIE-GOING EXPERIENCE, NEVER TO THIS DAY DUPLICATED.

90 MINUTES OF GIRLS SCREAMING - YOU COULDN'T HEAR THE DIALOGUE, JUST THE SCREAMS WAFTING THROUGHOUT THE THEATER.

MY PAL GORDY MANDELL AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT THE BEATLES ONE DAY AT LUNCH AND HE ASKED ME MY FAVORITE BEATLE.

WE LOOKED AT A SERVING TRAY WITH ALL FOUR BEATLES PHOTOS ON IT AND I IMMEDIATELY AND INSTINCTIVELY POINTED AT JOHN LENNON.

JOHN WAS THE BEATLE WHO WROTE THE BOOKS, THE FUNNY BEATLE, THE TOUGH BEATLE.

AS GEORGE HARRISON SO PERFECTLY PUT IT: "JOHN GAVE THE BEATLES THEIR HARD EDGE".

THEY WERE ALL FUNNY, ALL FOUR BEATLES, BUT JOHN'S WISECRACKS AND ANSWERS TO INTERVIEWER'S QUESTIONS WERE ALWAYS JUST A LITTLE FUNNIER, A BIT MORE CLEVER, THAN THE OTHERS.

HE ALWAYS SMILED, BUT ALWAYS WITH A LITTLE BIT OF A SMIRK BEHIND IT.

EVEN AT THEIR GREATEST MOMENT, ON THAT IMMORTAL FIRST "ED SULLIVAN SHOW", I SAW JOHN SMILING, BUT KIND OF SMIRKING.

AS THE WHOLE WORLD WAS FLIPPING OUT AND GOING GAGA OVER THE FAB FOUR, JOHN SEEMED TO BE SAYING TO HIMSELF, "ISN'T THIS SUCH BULLSH*T?"

JOHN HAD THE GREATEST VOICE IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK MUSIC.

OH, IT WASN'T AS PRETTY AS PAUL MCCARTNEY'S OR AS SMOOTH AS ELVIS PRESLEY'S, BUT IT JUST SO PERFECTLY CHANNELED WHAT ROCK 'N' ROLL IS.

IT WAS PRIMITIVE, VERY GUTTURAL.

BUT IT ELECTRIFIED YOU, MADE YOU WANT TO JUMP, TO GET UP OUT OF YOUR CHAIR AND DANCE, THIS IS WHAT GREAT ROCK MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT.

IT WAS PERFECT (ALTHOUGH, IRONICALLY, JOHN ALWAYS HATED HIS OWN VOICE. KIND OF LIKE THESE GORGEOUS, KNOCKOUT WOMEN WHO HATE THEIR OWN LOOKS.).

HE WAS THE GREATEST SONGWRITER EVER.

OMG------HELP, STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER, IN MY LIFE, GIRL, TICKET TO RIDE, A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS, ET AL.

AND THAT PERFECT WRITING COMBINATION WITH PAUL.

JOHN'S HARSHNESS, HIS TOUGHNESS, HIS CYNICAL, UNFORGIVING, RATHER BRUTAL NATURE- COMBINED WITH PAUL'S LIGHTHEARTED OPTIMISM, HIS WARMTH, HIS HOPEFULNESS, HIS SWEET MELODIC CHARM.

THEY OFFSET EACH OTHER SO PERFECTLY, MUCH LIKE DEAN MARTIN AND JERRY LEWIS HAD A FEW YEARS EARLIER.

LIKE SO MANY GREAT ARTISTS, JOHN SUFFERED.

HE WAS ALWAYS IN SPIRITUAL PAIN.

THIS WAS EASED, TO A GREAT DEGREE, ACCORDING TO HIM, BY HIS BELOVED WIFE AND PARTNER YOKO ONO.

MANY OF US BEATLE FANS COULD NOT COMPREHEND YOKO AND NEVER WILL, BUT THE FACT OF HER BRINGING SUCH JOY INTO JOHN'S LIFE WILL ALWAYS BE APPRECIATED BY US- JUST AS JOHN BROUGHT SO MUCH JOY INTO OURS.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE JOHN LENNON IS NOW- WHERE HE ENDED UP AFTER THAT JERK-OFF TOOK HIM AWAY FROM US.

WHEREVER HE IS, HE IS STIRRING UP TROUBLE SOMEHOW, STIRRING THE POT, I AM SURE, SASSING BACK AUTHORITY, ENTERTAINING, MAKING THEM LAUGH, ENCHANTING HIS FOLLOWERS.

JUST AS HE DID WITH US.

JOHN HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY GREATEST HERO.

ABOVE ALL THE OTHERS - ABOVE JERRY LEWIS AND DEAN MARTIN AND F.D.R. AND WYATT EARP AND WOODY ALLEN AND CLARK GABLE AND DOC HOLLIDAY AND OLIVER HARDY AND TOM BRADY AND ELVIS AND CHARLIE CHAPLIN AND BUSTER KEATON AND TOM HANKS AND JOHN TRAVOLTA AND MICHAEL JORDAN AND BABE RUTH.

AND YES, EVEN ABOVE PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO.

I'VE MET MANY CELEBRITIES AND I'VE MET OR SEEN FIVE U.S.PRESIDENTS.

SOMETIMES I'VE BEEN DISAPPOINTED BY THESE ENCOUNTERS.

I DEEPLY REGRET NEVER MEETING JOHN LENNON.

SOMEHOW I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT MEETING HIM WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCITING, ELECTRIFYING AND UNFORGETTABLE.

BUT NEVER DISAPPOINTING.

THIS GUY WAS A FORCE OF NATURE.

HE WAS WILD, UNCHAINED, UNINHIBITED.

HE TOOK DRUGS LIKE THE REST OF US CONSUMED JELLYBEANS.

HE LASHED OUT, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND VERBALLY.

AND LIKE ALL OF US, HE OFTEN LATER REGRETTED WHAT HE'D SAID OR DONE.

JOHN WAS ALL OF OUR GREATEST LOVES.

THAT SPECIAL BOYFRIEND OR GIRLFRIEND WE'LL NEVER FORGET.

AND AS WITH ALL THE TRULY GREATS, WE ALL LIVED THROUGH HIM VISCERALLY - AT LEAST TO A DEGREE.

I KNOW I DID.

AND I ALWAYS WILL.

FLORENCE HENDERSON HAS DIED
- SHE WAS 82

FloH
BRIEF THOUGHTS ABOUT FLORENCE HENDERSON.......

I NEVER LIKED THE BRADY BUNCH, I NEVER ONCE LAUGHED AT IT OR THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY.

I THINK THE ONLY EPISODE I EVER WATCHED WAS THE ONE WHERE THE HOT CHEERLEADER DATES GREG- AND THAT WAS ONLY BECAUSE THE CHEERLEADER WEARS A SKIMPY BIKINI IN ONE SCENE (MAN, I LOVED THAT SCENE.)

BUT FLORENCE HENDERSON SEEMED LIKE THE NICEST LADY.

I NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING FLORENCE- OR EVEN SEEING HER IN PERSON.

BUT THERE IS NO DENYING HER ICONIC STATUS OR THE SHOW'S.

THE BRADY BUNCH BROUGHT JOY AND HAPPINESS TO MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THE WORLD OVER.

I GUESS MRS. BRADY WAS THE MOM EVERYONE WANTED TO HAVE.

I WISH FLORENCE HENDERSON A HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY.

SHE BROUGHT SOMETHING VERY NICE INTO THE WORLD- AND MAYBE THAT'S THE BEST EPITAPH OF ALL.

REPUBLICANS BEAT DEMOCRATS IN MUSICAL CHAIRS PLAY-OFF.

AS THE RECORD STOPPED, THE GOP LEADERS SCRAMBLED MADLY AND GRABBED ALL THE CHAIRS LEFT, WINNING THIS YEAR'S MUSICAL CHAIRS PLAY-OFF, LEAVING THE DEMS WITH ONLY THE FLOOR TO SIT ON.

BUT THE DEMOCRATS ARE HOPEFUL AND LOOKING FORWARD TO BEATING THE GOP AT JACKS, DODGE BALL AND FINGER PAINTING.

FOR FATHER'S DAY...

Robert-I-Dezen

MY DAD, ROBERT I. "BOB" DEZEN

MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF MY DAD IS OF ME IN MY CRIB.

MY DAD PLAYING WITH MY TOES- "THIS LITTLE PIGGY WENT TO MARKET, THIS LITTLE PIGGY STAYED HOME......."

I REMEMBER A DARK, SCARY NIGHT, WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER WAS SCARED OF THE DARK.

I CRIED OUT INTO THE DARKNESS, HOPING MY DAD WOULD SOMEHOW HEAR ME.

AFTER MUCH CRYING AND HOPING, HE FINALLY DID.

HE CAME IN TO COMFORT ME AND ASSUAGE MY FEAR.

AND AT THAT MOMENT, MY DAD WAS JOHN WAYNE TO ME.

EVERY NIGHT WHEN MY DAD CAME HOME FROM WORK, I WOULD RUN UP AND JUMP INTO HIS ARMS, JUST LIKE MY OTHER HERO, GEORGE REEVES, DID ON THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.

AND DAD WOULD CATCH ME IN HIS STRONG ARMS, NEVER ONCE DROPPING ME.

AND I REMEMBER SITTING ON MY DAD'S LAP EVERY SUNDAY MORNING, AS HE READ US THE FUNNIES FROM THE COMICS SECTION OF THE SUNDAY NEWSPAPER.

AND DAD BUYING ME MY FIRST DOG FOR MY BIRTHDAY.

I NAMED HIM "MOE" BECAUSE I LOVED THE THREE STOOGES.

AND DAD AND MOE WERE BOTH MY PALS.

AND THOSE GLORIOUS SUMMERS IN ATLANTIC CITY.

THE SMELL OF THE OCEAN AS WE ARRIVED AND RUNNING OUT TO PLAY ON THE BEACH AND LAUGHING AND FROLICKING AS THE WAVES SPLASHED ALL AROUND US.

AND OUR CUSTOM ON THE BEACH EVERY YEAR: DAD LETTING US (ME AND MY BROTHER AND MY SISTER) BURY HIM IN THE SAND.

AND ONE DAY I REMEMBER I WAS SITTING AT PEOPLE'S DRUG STORE, EATING MY DINNER.

IT WAS A MONDAY NIGHT.

AND A BLACK MAN SAT DOWN BESIDE ME, AND I WAS TERRIFIED, BECAUSE I'D NEVER SEEN A BLACK MAN BEFORE,

SCARED AND CONFUSED, I LEFT MY SEAT AND SCURRIED DOWN, SEVERAL SEATS AWAY, TO WHERE IT WAS "SAFE".

AND DAD SAW THIS, AND HE CAME OVER TO ME, AND HE ASKED ME, "DID YOU RUN AWAY BECAUSE THAT MAN WAS BLACK?"

"NO", I SHOOK MY HEAD AND LIED, FOR EVEN AT THAT YOUNG AGE I KNEW I HAD DONE SOMETHING WRONG.

AND DAD TOLD ME IT WAS WRONG TO BE SCARED BECAUSE THE MAN HAD BLACK SKIN.

AND DAD MADE ME GO BACK TO MY ORIGINAL SEAT AND EAT MY DINNER THERE.

AND I WILL NEVER FORGET THE HURT LOOK ON THAT BLACK MAN'S FACE WHEN I RETURNED AND SAT DOWN BESIDE HIM.

AND I REALIZE NOW THAT MY DAD HAD AT THAT MOMENT TAUGHT ME MY FIRST LESSON IN LIFE, A LESSON ABOUT DECENCY AND HUMAN DIGNITY.

IT WAS A LESSON I NEVER FORGOT.

MY TELEVISION DEBUT

Gong
THE GONG SHOW
PREMIERED ON TV FORTY YEARS AGO TODAY - JUNE 14, 1976.

I MADE MY TV DEBUT ON THE GONG SHOW ON NOVEMBER 29, 1976. I AUDITIONED IN A LITTLE THEATER IN HOLLYWOOD AND I WAS APPROVED. I TOOK THE BUS TO BURBANK AND WENT TO NBC STUDIOS ON A SATURDAY MORNING.

THERE WERE ABOUT 50 OTHER ACTS THERE WITH ME, WE WERE ALL PUT UP TOGETHER IN ONE BIG ROOM. WE WAITED SEVERAL HOURS, THEN FINALLY THE TAPING, THAT EVENING. I DID A LITTLE STAND-UP COMEDY ROUTINE. I WORE A SAILOR HAT. MY JOKES WERE ALL WRITTEN ON LITTLE INDEX CARDS I CARRIED.

I WENT ONSTAGE AND THE BRIGHT LIGHTS MADE IT HARD TO SEE THE CROWD. I DID ALL MY JOKES, GOT SOME LAUGHS, BUT PAUL WILLIAMS GONGED ME WITH ONE JOKE LEFT. JAMIE FARR, WHO I LATER DID A MOVIE WITH, WAS ONE OF THE JUDGES, AS WAS JAYE P. MORGAN. AS I WALKED OFFSTAGE AFTER BEING GONGED, JAYE P. MORGAN YELLED OUT, "WE LOVE YOU, EDDIE". (WHAT A NICE LADY). I WAITED UNTIL THE END OF THE SHOW AND CAUGHT THE LATE BUS BACK TO HOLLYWOOD.

30 YEARS LATER, I SAW PAUL WILLIAMS AT A VOICE-OVER GIG. I TOLD HIM ABOUT HIM GONGING ME, LO, THOSE MANY YEARS AGO. HE SINCERELY APOLOGIZED TO ME, OF COURSE, I SAID NO BIG DEAL, BUT PAUL WAS IN ALCOHOLIC'S ANONYMOUS AND WAS REQUIRED TO APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE HE MAY HAVE HURT WHILE DRINKING. OF COURSE I ACCEPTED HIS KIND APOLOGY.

I WAS LATER SENT A WAFFLE IRON BY NBC FOR BEING ON THE SHOW. I PAWNED IT AT A PAWN SHOP AND GOT TWO DOLLARS FOR IT.

BEING ON THE GONG SHOW WAS A VERY HAPPY DAY IN MY LIFE, A FUN DAY I WILL NEVER FORGET.

George Gaynes Has Passed Away at 98

PB
I WORKED FOR A SEASON ON THE TV SHOW PUNKY BREWSTER WITH GEORGE GAYNES.

I LOVED HIM VERY MUCH, HE WAS THE NICEST GUY YOU COULD IMAGINE.

HE WAS VERY MUCH LIKE A FATHER TO ME - HE TALKED TO ME LIKE A FATHER.

AS AN ACTOR, HE WAS A CONSUMMATE PRO.

WHEN PAUL McCARTNEY WAS A GUEST ON THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JOHNNY CARSON IN 1984, IT WAS GEORGE WHO ARRANGED FOR ME TO GET TICKETS AND SEE PAUL (HE KNEW WHAT A BIG BEATLES FAN I WAS).

I WILL MISS GEORGE.

A QUICK NOTE FROM EDDIE

MY DEAR FRIENDS, I AM JUST GETTING HOME FROM MY POLYP REMOVAL OPERATION. I BELIEVE IT WENT WELL. I LOVE MY DOCTOR, DR. KARLA O'DELL, AND I LOVED ALL THE STAFF AT USC MEDICAL. THE POLYP ON MY VOCAL CORD IS NOW GONE.

I CAN'T SPEAK FOR NINE DAYS NOW!!!! I MISS SPEAKING ALREADY. I LOVE TO TALK AND COMMUNICATE SO MUCH.

I AM SO GLAD MY POLYP IS GONE. IT WAS TRULY ONE OF THE WORST THINGS THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. BUT, AS THEY SAY, INTO EACH LIFE SOME RAIN MUST FALL.

MUCH LOVE, YOUR FRIEND ALWAYS, EDDIE

A NOTE ON THE DEATH OF MY DEAR FRIEND
CHRISTINE CAVANAUGH

CC

I JUST HEARD THE NEWS - CHRISTINE CAVANAUGH [THE ORIGINAL DEXTER ON DEXTER'S LABORATORY] - HAS PASSED AWAY.

I DID THE FIRST-EVER VOICEOVER JOB WITH CHRISTINE OF HER CAREER. I THINK WE PLAYED A YOUNG MARRIED COUPLE. I LOVED HER FROM THE WORD GO.

CHRISTINE AND I WORKED TOGETHER, ON AND OFF, FROM 1996 TO 2001 OR SO ON DEXTER'S LABORATORY. SHE LEFT THE SHOW DURING ITS RUN AND RETIRED FROM THE BUSINESS. ALTHOUGH I ALSO LOVED CANDI, THE GIRL WHO REPLACED HER, CHRISTINE WAS TRULY IRREPLACEABLE.

SHE WAS ALWAYS A JOY AND A DELIGHT TO WORK WITH. HER TIMING, HER INFLECTIONS, HER NATURAL SENSE OF HUMOR WERE ALL SO WONDERFUL.

I AM DEEPLY SADDENED BY CHRISTINE''S PASSING. MY GOD, SHE WAS ONLY 51. BUT LIFE IS ALL TOO OFTEN TRAGIC, AS WE ALL WELL KNOW.

I GUESS WHEN SOMEONE YOU LOVE AND ADMIRE PASSES ON, YOU FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR OWN LOSS AND YOU FACE THE SEVERE REALITY THAT YOU WILL NOT EVER SEE THEM AGAIN. I DO, MYSELF, BELIEVE IN AN AFTERLIFE, SO I HOPE THIS IS UNTRUE.

I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE KNOWN CHRISTINE.

I SEND HER ALL THE LOVE I HAVE. I SEND HER A HUG AND WISH HER A SAFE AND HAPPY JOURNEY.

MY CHARACTER, MANDARK, HAD A CATCHPHRASE ON DEXTER'S LABORATORY. IT WAS HIS LAUGH: "HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA!!!!".

NO CATCHPHRASE COULD BE LESS APPROPRIATE FOR THE WAY I FEEL RIGHT NOW.

1941 Premiered 35 Years Ago Today!

1941 - STEVEN SPIELBERG'S ONLY COMEDY - PREMIERED 35 YEARS AGO TODAY - DECEMBER 14, 1979.

THE BUDGET WAS AN ESTIMATED $42,000,000.00, AT THE TIME, THE HIGHEST BUDGET EVER FOR A FILM COMEDY.

JOHN WAYNE WAS OFFERED THE ROLE OF MAJOR-GENERAL STILLWELL IN THE FILM. HE FELT THE FILM WAS UNPATRIOTIC AND A SLAP IN THE FACE TO WORLD WAR II VETERANS, SO HE TURNED IT DOWN. (HE WAS ALSO VERY ILL AT THE TIME). CHARLETON HESTON ALSO WAS OFFERED AND TURNED DOWN THE ROLE.

SOME SCENES IN THE FILM WERE SO NOISY, WE COULDN'T HEAR STEVEN SPIELBERG SAY "CUT". HE ACTUALLY HAD TO FIRE A PROP MACHINE GUN IN THE AIR TO GET THE ACTION TO STOP.

I SPENT MOST OF 1941 UP IN A FERRIS WHEEL WITH MY PAL, MURRAY HAMILTON. ONE DAY, MURRAY AND I WERE REALLY GETTING WHIPPED AND SPUN AROUND BY STEVEN ON THE FERRIS WHEEL AND I GOT VERY MOTION SICK. STEVEN'S SECRETARY HELPED ME AND TOOK ME TO STEVEN'S DRESSING ROOM TO LIE DOWN.

I LAY ON STEVEN'S BED AND FELT VERY WOOZY AND NAUSEOUS. THEN I SHAKILY WALKED TO STEVEN'S BATHROOM AND THREW UP.

IT DAWNED ON ME THAT I HAD JUST THROWN UP IN STEVEN SPIELBERG'S TOILET. THIS WAS A GREAT HONOR AND I STILL CONSIDER IT ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MY CAREER.

Eddie's on the Cover!
